Oversize or Overweight Permit is a document acquired from a state, city, county or province (Canada) for approval to travel on city streets and highways.  These permits are to be carried in the truck with drivers.  Several states allow Electronic permits rather than paper copy.  Please refer to our permit order form for electronic permit information.

To order a permit the following general information will be need:

  • Company Name, Address, Phone & Contact information
  • Truck and Trailer – Year / Make / Plate / VIN#
  • Load information – What your hauling / Make/ Model / Serial #
  • Dimensions
  • Routes

Routing is one of the most important steps in the permitting process.  It includes a specific route generated and approved by the state to ensure that you travel safely through that state avoiding bridges, construction and other restrictions that could cause a problem.

Who will need an oversize permit?

General permit requirements – each state varies so please call to verify before traveling

  • If overall height exceeds 13”6”
  • If overall width exceeds 8’6”
  • If trailer length exceeds 48’0”
  • If the overall weight exceeds 80,000 pounds or
    • Over 20,000 pounds on a single axle
    • Over 34,000 on a tandem axle

State requirements  & load regulations

    Most states will also require signs, flags or escorts depending on dimensions.  As some oversize loads are a danger to other drivers who may not be experienced driving near or around such a large object.
